Worshipful Brother John Crane

John Crane-militia major war of 1812. First Postmaster of Jacksonburg, Ohio & the 23rd Worshipful Master of Washington Lodge #17. He came to the Hamilton area around 1810, settled in Jacksonburg until 1825, He then moved to Hamilton and became a Hotel innkeeper and partnered with WB William VanHook in the grocery business. He was also a City inspector. He obtained his Masonic degrees including Chapter, Council and Commandry in 1827 served as Worshipful Master in 1833 and 1838. He died in 1864 in Covington Kentucky and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio

Situated at 724 High St on the main Hamilton Ohio corridor, The Hamilton Masonic Temple is home to the oldest Masonic lodge in Butler County. Founded in 1811 and fully chartered in 1812, the history of Washington Lodge traces its heritage to the very founding of Hamilton and Butler County.
