Worshipful Brother Benjamin Franklin Raleigh

Benjamin Franklin Raleigh, Educator, Butler County Surveyor, Sergeant of Arms of The Ohio House of Representatives and the 35th Worshipful Master of Washington Lodge #17.  Worshipful Brother Raleigh was born in 1801 in New York, he migrated west around 1824 and became a Teacher along with WB Alexander Proudfit in 1825.  He is considered one of the first to form townships in butler county. Although he moved to Wilmington, Ohio and was listed as a representative of Lafayette Lodge #79 at the Grand Lodge communication in 1859. It is unclear if he maintained membership with Washington Lodge.  WB Raleigh past away in 1866 in Wilmington, Ohio and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio

Location

Situated at 724 High St on the main Hamilton Ohio corridor, The Hamilton Masonic Temple is home to the oldest Masonic lodge in Butler County. Founded in 1811 and fully chartered in 1812, the history of Washington Lodge traces its heritage to the very founding of Hamilton and Butler County.
